Thanx Ben ; I had lost track of the date, the stories said it was
bad, if it killed that many back then what do you suppose it would
do now ? Nothing I know of is built in or around Charleston taking into account an earthquake. I was one of the workers on the new
Bridge and I can't recall them saying a word about any tolerances
being built into it for an earthquake, maybe there were ? But I
just don't recall it.
It was built by Brown & Root, the same company
that had the largest law suit in US history for substandard
construction, ( I think that was on the Texas Nuclear plant ),
they had even faked xrays of some critical systems. Odd but I can't
remember any one going to jail over it. Us workers had a nick name
for the company "Root and Scoot". <G>
