Zeev-

I see you also have experience working with intel...

I am sorry to say, INTC has so many bodies on this Merced that they get all in
each other's way. CYRX beat INTC to the punch with 1/10 of the bodies. It is not
the numbers that counts, it is how well they do their job.

I totally agree with you, when a project is behind the
intel solution is throw 100 more engineers at it. They are
so focused on adding engineers (instead of streamlining their
current operations) that they opened up the Dupont, WA plant
because they felt they sucked up all the available bodies
elsewhere. This is a solution... not what i would call
the optimal, but they seem to make it work.

But even so, the undertaking of developing a merced type
processor is huge. S3 just doesnt have that experties,
nor are they trying to build it (Check the employment
adds it all graphics and graphic driver jobs). They already
screwed up by trying to diversify into communication, audio
and high-end grpahics, and not focusing on their core
expertise of higher volume low/mid graphics. A uP is the
last place S3 would put resources. Patents or no patents
it doesnt matter.

What i see S3 planning to do instead in a year timeframe is
a mobile savage... rambus i/f... a more powerful graphics
engine. S3 uses the intel model of having multiple teams
working on the different generations of the same project
(ala P7 team, P8 team, etc...). So as say the Savage chips
roll out from one team, the other team is already designing the
follow on gx4 architecture.
