I am curious, I am a neophyte investor (been in the market but function as a gambler as I do not read quarterly reports etc) anyway I rode AMAT from 26 to 107 did not get out and now hold 200 shares. I realize now that many on this thread use AMAT as a trading opportunity not a long term holding as I desire. My goal is to buy and hold for 15 years minimum. My question, am I a fool to hold this stock or should I get out now ???? I'm curious how many long term holders just hang tough through these whipsaw cycles and how many actually time to big money???

OK Jacob,

Here's mine, excluding margin. A very wise person gave me some advice on margin and posting it and allowing others to know what you are doing. It puts too much pressure on one and is not worth it to me. For that reason, I have listed the stocks I have in the cash portion of my portfolio and their respective percentages. Let the games begin!!!!

AMAT: 67.80%
PRIA: 1.58%
LRCX: 12.70%
INTC: 1.40%
EGLS: 2.54%
CYMI: 10.48%
KO: .80%
ASYT: 1.30%
SFAM: 1.39%

Good luck to all who enter.

BK

Jacob,

May I suggest that the time frame be lengthened to 31 months, with the final day being Dec 31, 2000? This will decrease luck as a factor, and increase the measuring of intellect and investment aptitude. To exaggerate in order to explain my point, there is considerable skill and little luck involved in trying to guess what will appreciate more in value in 20 years, and considerable luck and little skill involved in trying to determine whether amat will appreciate or depreciate tomorrow. This is self evident. Fortunes used to be made over time, with great patience, planning and determination being key ingredients...after wealthy parents.

Make it a real contest between traders and investors...lengthen the time frame.
