I think a molten carbonate box running 1300 degrees F in my basement is just fine as I can use it to derive all my hot water needs, which will be less in warm weather than cold. Also if the FC is midsized, home owners could take extra needed power from the utility grid when home demand is high and feed power back into the grid when demand is low, such as at night. I imagine that FC can be throttled to an extent to shut the FC down to a standby condition. My main concern is how to produce a pure sine wave AC from the FCs DC output current with high efficiency and low cost - this could be a tough nut to crack.
