NEW YORK, June 11 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley analyst Jay Deahna said Thursday that 1998 semiconductor capital spending would decline more steeply than he
previously forecast, based on much lower-than-expected utilization rates in the semiconductor industry.

His latest forecast was for a spending decline of 20-to-22 percent. His previous forecast had been a decline of between 12 and 14 percent, Morgan Stanley said.
May book-to-bill data for the industry is slated to be released June 16.

...this is me here... I can't believe how long this has been going on and it seems to keep on going? Could it be that computers are currently fast enough for businesses, that there isn't that need to upgrade as there was before. All around me people have purchased new computers and upgraded, me included. But perhaps the rest of the world is content with first generation pentiums <=133Mhz. But then you look at Dell and Compaq and they are doing so well, what is the problem?

What is going to trigger the next move and when?

Sure would have been nice to go short on any stock in the group on
4/24. You didn't even have to think about which one to short - no
matter which one you picked, good money would have been made. And
quess which stock is on the bottom. The only one I bought during
this period and I went LONG!!!!! Not a pretty sight!!
