Jack, Speech recognition and generation requires lots of MIPs. IBM just announced an upgrade to their packages. We are close to HAL in this area. CAD/CAM packages, planning software, graphics processing, .... are all waiting to gobble up cheap MIPs, storage space, memory, .... IMHO, the need for faster PCs/workstations is not likely to end soon. IBM mainframe MIPs shipped continues to set records. PC/workstation power shipped also continues to increase. We hear that additional power is suddenly not really needed, but I have seen no data to support a slow down in MIPs shipped. Scott

Jack, I agree with you. One thing though I just read an article about window 98. Like you said I did not need to update my before Christ 486 dx 120 meg 32meg memory and 850 hard drive. To do what I'm doing now. But that article said window 98 will not run right if you do not have more than 2.1 gig hard drive. So now if I want window 98 to be installed on my system I am fortunate to have an computer egghead friend who can do this for me. But the people who do not have this luxury to upgrade will go out and buy another Dell. So I guess the demand will increased for new computer for anybody who has less then a 2.1 gig hard drive. The article said upgrading to window 98 by adding a new hard drive was not as simple as step 1,2,3. Lord knows I beat my computer too much to try and upgrade myself. It would just be easier to buy a new 266meg computer that I paid for about same price for my before Christ one and give my daughter mine.
