<<<Contrast that to the fact that in their releases they prominently
featured the fact that their directors have been sold to IBM for some time. >>>

Just to clarify what you just said. McData sold ESCON directors to IBM, not FC directors. ED5000(McData's FC director) is not available until 3rd quarter. They make it sound like ES2500(McData's 16 port FC switch available in 3rd quarter also) is a new product. It could well be. What happened to their ES4000 FC switch? That was supposed to be a 32 ports switch, announced back in Oct/97. Go to their news archive and read up on it. Like I said, IBM've been evaluating hubs and switches for quite some time and McData is now touting their yet to be available FC products. And, I can't find McData's original FC switch ES4000 under their product list. Draw your own conclusion. I know everyone've been skittish, including myself. But, I worry about Brocade more than McData. Their product is not up to par IMO.
