Intel did not cut off supplies to DEC. There was a contract that Intel honored. DEC threatened to sue IF Intel cut off supplies. This made for a very interesting set of claims by DEC.

1. DEC insisted that Intel stop manufacturing Pentium & Pentium II chips due to alleged patent infringement.

2. DEC insisted that Intel continue to manufacture and supply DEC with Pentium & Pentium II chips under threat of anti-trust action if they should refuse.

Most strange.

Re -- I have no doubt that Intel DID cut off their supply-

You are wrong. Intel in the digital case, said that digital's contract would have to be renegotiated when expired. And in the intergraph case, intel continued to supply chips.

DougHboy, re:"I have no doubt that Intel DID cut off their supply--after all, this is the paranoid, take-no-prisoners culture that Andy Grove perfected. But, I don't see why there anything wrong with it."

For the record, Intel continued to ship production product to these customers throughout the legal dispute.

Remember, you can be paranoid and legal at the same time.

DH, re: Intel did not cut chip supply to Intergraph or DEC

No, this is not the fact...

Intel sought its return of its own advanced IP from Intergraph after Intergraph sued over a dubious prior patent - a classic "deep pockets" lawsuit. Chip supplies were never jeopardized.
