I admire your effort to move forward in life. I hope we can
be of some help here.

From your profile, I see you do not visit SI on a consistent
basis. Doing so would benefit you greatly as we respond to
your questions.

From your post, it looks like you want to get off your
web TV and into a computer system with specialized
communicating software.

I personally don't know of any special software expect for
voice dictation. Have you contacted any QUAD support group
agency to see if they have leads for such? Disabled individuals
are in the workforce and I'm wondering if contacting a state agency
for such software might be another option.

I do know of one person, Pete Barry, who is Vulcan at Market News
Online. He has 'verbal' software for symbol search and trading. He may be able to put you in touch with software developers in this field. vlcn.com He finds that trading verbally over
the net is faster than typing.
His broker is castleonline.com - Kill Key

I'm trying to understand your computer situation. You couldn't
get the new computer to work so you sent it back? Was it because
of the computer itself or your understanding of how to get it to
work?

Also, why do you feel a need to copy write your SI posts?

Domain Names...Quad Machines

Internic registers domain names rs.internic.net the fee is $70 up front for two years and then $35 per year after that.

That gives you rights to a name, nothing else.

You can see if a domain name is available on this page.
rs.internic.net

If you want more. For example website forwarding and email forwarding you can use a service like Name Secure namesecure.com
They will do the domain name registration for you (you pay the $70 as above) In addition you pay $50 the first year and $25 per year after that.

For example: If you have a home page with your Internet Service Provider ( ISP) and you have website forwarding, anyone that types your domain name will be sent to your home page.
for example zeuspaul.com or zeuspaul.com

email forwarding is almost the same. If email is sent to your domain it will be forwarded to the email address of your choice.

If you want more.

You can have your domain name appear in someone's browser like this webquad.com if you sign up with a web hosting service like adgraphix. adgrafix.com

Their entry level web page is $79 initial setup fee and $39 per month for 15 MB of space and a lot of bandwidth ( GB a day I think) I believe The $79 fee includes registering a domain name for you but that has to be verified.

Please ask questions, I will clarify if possible.

I do not have a full grasp of your computer needs. My understanding is you want a communication machine. I also understand that you want a secure machine, something that no one can get into without authorization. Is my understanding correct?

As Street Walker indicated Voice Recognition software is just now becoming an alternate solution to typing. Let us know if this is something we should look further into. Spell checking would be an option if you dictated your posts into word and then cut and pasted to the SI edit window.

There is a Voice Recognition thread #Subject-20155 at SI but feel free to post any questions on this thread as well.

Mr. Lake:

For a domain name reservation, I would recommend Tabnet

tabnet.com

The fee for reserving the domain name is $50, for which
they will host the domain and give you an "under construction"
web page for as long as you like. On top of that, you have
to pay Internic a two-year registration fee, which, unless
they have dropped their price (which I can't imagine) is
$100 for two years plus (at present) $50 per year thereafter.

I own two domain names myself which I registered through them
at a total cost of $300 ($100 to Tabnet, $200 to Internic).

I don't have any current web
site there at present, but if you visit my domains
you will get an "under construction" web page, which they
maintain as long as you pay the Internic yearly fees.
If you want to put up a page, their fees start at $29 per
month. I haven't tried that yet (maybe next year),
so I can't say how well or how poorly it works. But
I have been very favorably impressed with their
service in my own minimal use of it (as described above).

My most recent contact, if you're interested, was Jana,
Extension 1128, at (888) 4TABNET. I hate those word
phone numbers, but every time I write them down as numbers
I get 'em wrong, so I won't try to translate it.

Regards and best success in your efforts.

Anything we can do to help here, please ask.
