Techie,

The charts can not help CPQ.

The chance of CPQ missing this quarter and next quarter and the quarter there after is high. The news is that they will announce a 1 Billion dollar obsolete inventory write down this quarter.

In the best of quarters, they can only net 0.5 Billion. So this is an immense write down.

Let's face it Techie, CPQ's business model is inferior to DELL's.

Techie, it appears to me that you base your positive outlook for CPQ on the fact that the stock hasn't performed well this year, and therefore it must begin to move up to parallel DELL.

The fact of the matter is that CPQ (as you must know) has failed to execute any degree of good business strategy for the past few quarters. The effects of this failure are still in the system, and the failure itself may still need further correction. THAT IS WHY CPQ IS DOWN.

DELL on the other hand has continued to execute its model at a flawless (or near flawless) performance. Nothwithstanding the superiority of the direct model, DELL continues to SIGNIFICANTLY outpace CPQ (and the competition) on ALL MEASUREMENTS OF FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE. Why then should the stock not do the same?

I would stay away from CPQ for a while. Otherwise, if you can justify buying CPQ (this action would be your proxy in favor of the health of the industry), you can certainly justify buying DELL.

Techie, I am mystified at a statement you made: They have nothing to lose [CPQ], Dell has a lot.

It seems to me that each company has as much at stake as the other. What does Dell have at risk that is not at risk with Compaq?
