[BRIEFING'S TAKE]------PFIZER INC. (PFE) 112 7/16 CLOSED. Shares of male impotence pill Viagra maker could come under selling pressure
again, even though the FDA said yesterday that 16 deaths that occurred while patients where taking Viagra could not be
directly linked to use of the drug. However, there are rising concerns that this male impotency drug could be hazardous
when combined with other medications being taken by a patient. At least this is the concern that today's Wall Street
Journal is raising and which could dampen enthusiasm for the drug and the stock. Given that the drug has not been tested by
the FDA for its reaction when combined with other medication, there is the potential that Viagra could cause deaths in
men taking additional medication. Already, Pfizer warns patients not to use Viagra if individuals have been given
nitroglycerin for chest pains. However, of the 16 deaths that have occurred, some patients were taking insulin for diabetes,
Pravachol for lowering cholesterol, and Cardizem for high blood pressure. While the FDA and Pfizer still stands by their
findings that Viagra is safe and effective, the number of deaths that have occurred could start to weigh on the stock
again, even though this is a very small percentage of the total users that have not experienced any side effects. It should be
noted that many of the individuals that have died while taking Viagra were already high risk cases and any extra strenuous
activity could have put them over the edge, not directly correlated with the drug.
