GM,
>> My favorite sentence from Cramer's story...
>Disk drives aren't that hard to make< <<

That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have read in a very long time.
The complexity of the manufacturing process and the marketing gambles every quarter never cease to amaze me.

Yogi

PS Now that I think about it, "Stud" and "Institutional clients" in the same sentence was pretty ridiculous <G>

GM,
<<My favorite sentence from Cramer's story... >Disk drives aren't that hard to make< And people listen to know-nothings like this!>>

Cramer is too glib but there is an element of truth in what he says. With apologies to the channel designers I think the real fulcrum in this market is in the heads and media. Cramer likely meant that assembling disk drives is not all that hard. In truth he is right. But caution here: You and I get too close to the daily problems of particle counts and esd so we end up thinking what a bitch it is to do a manufacturing line. The truth is that anyone with enough money can get the right people to build a plant and start producing disk drives. What just anybody cannot do is design and build the heads and media. For one thing the capital required is HUGE! For another its a black art cum science. So what are the real issues that beg answers? QNTM's and Seagate's difficulties with heads. RDRT's late execution on MR. WDC's lousy performance in Media mfg. KMAG's collapse under the crushing weight of not moving quickly enough to static sputtering. All the rest; including BTO business models, sub zero PCs, over competition, etc. have articulated resolutions.

Best,
Stitch

Re: Cramer's frothings

I thought this part was cool <gg>

But I defer to my sleuthing partner, Jeff, who has adopted a wait-and-still-don't-see attitude that has saved our firm mucho dollars. No bottom yet, is the only thing he will keep saying. So far I have been wrong; he's been right. Let's go with him.

God bless,
PX
