Dr. <That will be alot of $$$ for WSTL.>

OK...LOTS of $$$ but why doesn't Wall Street know this? More importantly, why doesn't WSTL report these numbers $$$.

The contract has been announced, there is nothing to hide, WHY DOESN'T WSTL BOAST ABOUT THEIR LARGEST CONTRACT/ORDER IN TERMS OF $$$..THAT IS NOT HYPE, IT IS REALITY!

And can you answer Bill C.'s question <Westell is going to provide a solution on LU's 5ESS, but they don't get their names on the ADSL spec. I've seen Westell's name on the CISCO, Nortel, Alcatel spec, and we know they aren't working with those companies. Why leave Westell's name off??> Is it because LU is doing a "private label" type thing with WSTL?

Dr. Tech: Several different sources of information have clouded the BEL deployment issue... I'll list them:

1) Telechoice... "Bell Atlantic has indicated privately that it is strongly considering moving to DMT later in 1998."

2) BEL's RFP for DMT equipment. I think you eluded to that in a previous post. You indicated that BEL needs those RPF's now.

3) The Westell/DSC BEL release from Westell's home page. For some reason Westell placed INITIAL in the headline. "DSC and Westell Technologies to Supply Equipment for Initial Rollout of Bell Atlantic ADSL Services". Why state initial in the headline? The only other deployment release where I see Initial-deployment/phase-I mentioned is with BC. Westell wins Phase-I deployment, but BC selects Alcatel for phase II and the DSLAM contract. This gets back to Gary stating that "long term contracts are being signed". He must have been talking about Alcatel, Fujistu, NN, Ericsson, CSCO because Westell's contracts are for Initial and phase I deployments.

4) DSC and Alcatel merger. This doesn't give me a warm feeling.

The ONLY reason I'm not selling "besides the stock being ~$10/share" is "I feel" an integrated existing switch platform solution is the way for Westell to compete against Alcatel. I have my fingers crossed "great way to invest" that Westell can produce a timely DMT solution on the Lucent platform..... until later.

DR. TECH Re: CAP/DMT

DR. TECH -

<< And even when they go DMT it will probably be offered as a upgrade feature(higher priced than CAP alternative) >>

I've read from many sources that CAP and DMT interfere with each other when they're in the same bundle. I've not heard that this problem was ever solved. If that is true, then you could only have CAP or DMT, but not both simultaneously. It seems to me that this would preclude your upgrade scenario.
