Hi Steve-

I fall apart completely when it comes time to interpret the subjective part of a fundamentals picture. I saw the 3 acquisitions, but hadn't any idea when they occurred or if they should add to the bottom line of BDT immediately or even if they're a smart thing to do. Doing what you do for a living has to be a big plus in interpreting this stuff. In case there's a difference in data, I'll cut/paste a copy of what I read and e-Mail it so you can compare.

re: volatility for AIM... from the looks of it, I suspect that the info services use two 2-point comparisons to come up with beta: one compares 1-yr results and the other 3- or 6-month results; then they average them. That's the easy way. The hard way uses a statistical comparison and requires processing at least 100 data points (preferably more) from both the S&P and the stock. BDT seems to have a cyclical nature that should work OK with AIM, it's just that BDT's range is narrower than we like to see for plain-vanilla AIM settings. Hence the tweaking.

re: Schwab 500 page... I've downloaded from the site on a couple occasions. They have a great range of stuff, don't they? Wish the data were searchable, but that would be asking a lot. I used to not pay much attention to the Argus reports that they mail us every month, but have to admit they've had some good calls. My preference had been smaller cap than Argus is interested in. Don't feel so strongly about that as I used to.

I used to subscribe to Daily Graphs and more recently I was in their beta program for the web-based Daily Graphs. Frankly I think it costs way too much for a database that isn't searchable. IBD seems to go out of their way to provide different data to institutional investors than they do private investors.

We're still struggling with the weather here. Grey and yukky all week, though the weekend is supposed to be pretty nice. Hope that guy is wrong about dry weather coming because I sure don't want to have to deal with another drought! Ev spent a lot of $$$ landscaping and I'd hate to see that go down the toilet.

Bruce
