I'm not scoffing - I was starting to wonder about this myself. I remember an Economics 101 professor of mine back in the mid 70s predicting the demise of OPEC. He said cartels by definition cannot survive - the individuals will eventually act in their own self interest & the cartel will fall apart. Maybe...

Major Global Paradigm Shift in Oil Price. I too believe we may be seeing the first signs of this.

Technology has made getting oil out of the ground very cheap often low single digit costs. Already 200 Mile Per Gallon cars have been designed but the patents have been quashed by the oil companies. Conspiracy no? How much longer can the powers that be hold up artificially high oil prices. My guess is the game is up and the future will hold single digit crude oil prices.

Just a hunch based on nothing but some strange gut feelings.
