I'm relieved to hear you speak of BillyRubin as arrogant. I have been bothered by that growing awareness ever since you wrote of the "trigger" ystdy.

I also confess to composing this reply after reading the Atlantic Monthly's June 98 "review" of Japan's self-image as Family concepts, warp and woof of the fabric of their society, I was left wondering what will be left of the Jas. spirit if they are whupped and demoralized twice by the same foe in less than 60 yrs.

Not a pleasant thought, since we are supposed to be such a "helpful" nation...

You HAVE read the Atlantic Monthly article to which I refer, right?

ps..don't think Rubin had a choice..think he is quite worried that
Japan has not initiated bank reform etc ..so I didn't view it as
arrogant...just hard to have a game plan for US recovery when one
has no control over external factors and the pinball effect...
I have the date July 12 for Japan in my mind..read a news release
but can't remember what it said..
