Hi Eric, the term "money flow" is attached to a number of different indicators, so it's hard to make broad-brush statements. But, yes, I've done work with what I call money flow, which is "joined at the hip" with accumulation/distribution.

The way they describe Birinyi's system. it would seem to be a useful database to have, as it represents all trades, not just an approximation using O-H-L-C-v data.

Unfortunately, that vast amount of data isn't available to us. All we have to work with is O-H-L-C-v data. I'm not sure that having all data always gives better results than the approximation gives.

As with any indicator, none is 100% reliable. Even having data for every trade doesn't make it 100% reliable. I'm sure we could find cases where the approximation worked better than having all trade data and vise-versa. But since we don't have all data available to us,probably no point in wondering what if....
