A few words about the end of an era for DEC!
As a former employee (over 12 years at DEC) and a long time follower, I had somewhat of a "sad" feeling yesterday. Once again, I learned a very valuable lesson that hopefully we will use in our future investing decisions. That is being ahead "technologically" without strategy, marketing, and a sound business plan will lead a 42 year-old giant to where a 16 years old Box Maker will have the ability to buy it out.

Now, we all agree that DEC had always the best technology 'ahead' of all other players. May be that was the problem, just think:

- DEC PC's in 1983 (VaxMate) was running MS Windows 2.0, when
no one knew what windows was.

- DEC had 64 bit technology when INTC would not even have it
by 2000?

- Microsoft NT is nothing but the good old VMS.

Sadly the ones that benefited from all of this were INTC and MSFT all along while DEC executives (mostly tech. types) were struggling to turn the company around.

Well so much for the past. I think with the CPQ's management from what I have seen so far, DEC is in good hands. What impressed me was how quickly they have put the pieces together. Would we have bumps along the way? You bet. but all an all, I think current CPQ share holders will be fine long term (1-2 years).

FYI: for option holders the new symbols are now DEY, for LEAPS, they are LYY. i.e (DEC Jan 30 calls are DEYAF). They now follow CPQ to the penny.

Good luck to all and let's keep posting here until we get tired of it.

Charles,
I am confused. Did the acquisition take place today? I just happen to notice my DEC never traded today. If thats the case, when will we get the CPQ shares and our $30.00????

Dorine
Never mind, I just read all the posts and got my answers.
Thanks anyway. See you on the CPQ thread
