Ted, Don, Bill,

Speaking of opinions.......first, tech stocks. My opinion is that we won't see the bottom until late fall. I give no credence to Win '98. Zero, zilch. I base this on a few people I know who beta tested this dog of a software. You are right in your assessment about it being fluff and no substance. In fact, I am told that there are still issues with upgrading, that a lot of machines freeze up and have to be rebooted. Also, there is very little "operating" difference between the '95 and '98 and for the most part it is the "look" that is the major difference.

As for the i740 let me say what others smarter then myself have been saying (Ted). The graphics arena in general has to, needs to, nay, must, consolidate. There are way too many players with "me too" chips. And, based on what we have all be reading about Cirrus in the past and now Intel, regarding dumping practices, this will only further exasperate the issue.

So, what does this all mean to S3? Again, it has been said before. Not much in profits until the end of the year. Unless ole Walt Amaral and Terry Holdt are holding out on us and the Savage is beginning to pick up more and more momentum.

George, did you hear what I said....mo...men...tum!

The 440EX is the best competitor to the Trio3D if it integrates 2D capabilities. I wonder if anyone on this thread can give information on how many gates are required for a 250Mhz RAMDAC, and all other relevant 2D circuitry?

It might give some idea behind the possible gate counts of the next generation (2-3 after EX) chip sets.
