Let me start off by saying today's (Monday's) announcement makes clear that VLSI's two year effort was successful. Those who are technical and understand the wireless standards know that CDMA is by far the most complex and costly. There is very little competition and a high barrier to entry. The choice for the handset manuf. has been to either buy CDMA chips from Qualcomm, or design and produce your own. The solution from DSPC is not competitive, and LSI is still working on their CDMA. Since Ericsson has not as yet produced CDMA handsets in volume, we know this will also mean a broadening out of VLSI's customer base. Jim
