Well, Greg, I certainly don't hold Darwin responsible for the Holocaust. But as I recall, I read it somewhere on this thread, and not too long ago, either. Perhaps the original poster will pop to clarify exactly how it went.

Leakey did not discover Lucy. It was a scientist named Donald Johanson, and the year was 1974. While I was looking up his name, I happened across this discussion of very ancient feet, which you might find interesting:

I don't think we really have much of the fossil record filled in yet. Anthropology and archaeology are really new sciences because there are still so many questions unanswered. Of course, everyone has a favorite theory!!

Are you familiar with this url? It is a discussion of archaeological evidence from early Christianity from the PBS Frontline special on Jesus. I was particularly fascinated by the paragraph about evidence that Paul may not have said everything that is attributed to him:
