I look at Fat Blue Kitty lying on his back, his chubby legs stretched straight out in a most vulgar way, sleeping through the day next to me, and wonder if at night when he goes out to prowl, he is reliving those atavistic memories Tolkien writes of. Or is he just waiting for me to wake up and feed him again? Well, last night I had three glasses of Chardonnay. And Dan had two Weissbier. For us that's heavy drinking. I'm a bigger talker than drinker. The Pub was called the Fox and the Hound and has dart boards and pooltables and shuffleboard and electronic trivia games that only Dan is any good at. He knows the weirdest stuff. But we laughed a lot and a good time was had by all. I think one of the hardest things in marriage is finding another couple where everyone likes everyone else a lot. Especially men, who don't seem to make friends in the same way women do. We feel very fortunate to have this couple. They even have boys the same age as ours. The food was not good. There was the inevitable salsa and cheese and chips and the ubiquitous fried onions. (I swear, even the Sushi places serve taco chips and salsa in Texas) And the fish was extremely fried and the fries were soggy. Dan had the Philly Beef Sandwich (that's British??) and it looked good. But since I had only had a V-8 all day, I would have eaten the dartboards and raved about them. Diets make one very easy to please.
