You (and Victor) are looking at AMZN as a traditional company. I think you are failing to take into account that we are witnessing the birth of a new era where the internet is changing all the rules.

Agreed. Outside internet hardcores, AMZN is not any more widely recognized a brand than B & N or in my neck of the woods, Borders. Ultimately they will have to be profitable, and books have already become a commodity item.

What AMZN does in excessive advertisement is not really cost effective--it is a waste. I have seen AMZN commercial on TV more than 50 times in one month and seen its ads everywhere on the NET. How many more commercial will it convince me or others to buy books from them?
