Can't say that I follow or pretend to understand Japanese politics, but doesn't it stand to reason that now that a recession has been officially declared it would be dangerous to do nothing, or be seen as doing nothing? Will the electorate stand still for absence of action, or would they demand change? Here I think there would be screams for blood. Would this situation in fact be great cover to take the strong action needed, and be seen as the party with the plan to fix things and being bold enough to actually do something?
