Ollie,

nice wishful thinking that US beats Germany. Although Germany is a slow starter you will see a powerful game by the Germans.
The US should play tactical, they should concentrate all their efforts on the Yugos to survive first round. If they survive, they most probably have to play against Holland, difficult enough.
So forget the match against Germany try to get on to the next round.

BTW the referee was right with the red card on the Dutch player. As mentioned in former post the Dutch have always players acting most unfair to others.

Being pretty wrong on yesterday's prediction another try:
Yugo - Iran 2x0
Jamaica - Croatia 1x1
Argentina - Japan 2x0

Have fun

Welcome Ollie

Re:Kluivert "and I'm glad he's gone for the next game bc he was playing very poorly. He has an attitude problem!)"

I agree with you 100%.

Re:Brazil-Netherlands 3-2 in 1994 about your comment being "robbed" well yes there were a couple of questioning calls but I think "robbed" may go a little too far. It was Brazil's destiny to win it in 1994<g>

"Seedorf almost single-handedly ruined the Dutch attack. Watch him - he has no talent whatsoever for ball control, and, when he does manage to retain possession, hogs the ball, blowing all momentum."

I agree 100% here too, especially about "blowing all momentum".

I want you to know I always pull for the Dutch. I am a forever fan from the Cruyff days (they used to call me that when I was a kid!), Rezenbrik,etc...and the total joy to watch their "total football" style.

Your comments about coaching and the federation were very interesting, thanks it explains a lot. I was wondering why Cruyf was not coaching. Kluivert and Seidorff were totally useless in the game and should not have even started. That Overmars guy is just a superb player. With a healthy Bergkamp they will go far but I do not think they are good enough to go all the way.

Eventhough Brazil is my sentimental favorite I think they will need a miracle to go all the way this time around. It is a pity that we don't get to see Gascoigne play again...such a joy to watch. If France had Cantona...too bad he retired. Did you see him in those very good Nike commercials?

"the United States will beat Germany. Yes, that's right: the USA will WIN."

Wow, that's a shocker of a prediction. I would love to see it! As far as USA beating Austria 3-0, after seeing Austria play I think that was not a good result by the US!!<g>

Again welcome here

George

Welcome Ollie.

I am sure you will add your knowledge and views to the thread.

Nothing like one's own to give real criticism to a particular team, one is never a prophet (or poet), in their own land.

I look forward to more great comments from you.

I am particularly in agreement about the USA team opinion, I feel this is the best team the USA has had ever, and I am expecting them to go far, as I see more of the teams in this initial games, my own initial predictions will have to be drastically reviewed after the first phase.

As for the Dutch, initially I placed them in fourth, I would like to see more of them to re-assess such prediction, while their first game did not impressed me, your comments seem to explain much of what went on.

As for Nigeria, I think that it is more than a one game event, Bora Milutinovic is truly a magician, but who knows, the results will really show how strong they really are.

Another team that I think is in great shape is Chile, I did not agree with the referee's call of the hand ball, (that gave the Italians the equalizer), as clearly there was no intent to stop the ball, the ball went to the hand and not the other way around. regardless it is part of the game and it is in the past now. I look forward Chile to do well.

The French, played solidly, and the home turf advantage could be of great assist, in 1962, Chile finished in 3rd. place, so perhaps France will do better than what I originally thought.

Interesting to learn about Cruyff, (for one I had the spelling wrong).

Z.
