What does that prove? When one form of hegemony doesn't work, you should trade it for another that is worse? That reminds me of the response you get when you say to someone that the endless pursuit of money brings unhappiness. They always respond in an absolute fashion with, do you expect me to live in poverty. If one way doesn't work the alternative is some extreme of another. If I say that to socialists about Russia they say, yes, Russia could have been the first successful socialist state if they had only ruled with an iron hand.
