Litton Network Access Systems Releases Real-Time MPEG-2 Codec For Networked Video ROANOKE, Va--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1998--Litton Network Access Systems, a division of Litton, is pleased to announce the release of its newest network-based video delivery system. Litton Network Access Systems, a worldwide provider of ATM access products, expands its product line by offering MPEG-2 video encoding and decoding of affordable, broadcast-quality video for moderated conference and distance learning applications. Litton Network Access Systems' CAMVision-2TM MPEG-2 Video Encoder/Decoder for ATM and Ethernet networks gives customers an improved solution compared to current narrowband video offerings using ISDN. The unit will provide broadcast video quality at reduced bandwidth by compressing video up to 100:1, yielding variable bit rate (VBR) encoding of 3 to 15 Mbps. CAMVision-2 initiates MPEG transmission via MPEG-2 in IP packets over ATM. The rack-mountable unit will also have Web, SNMP, and Telnet network management capability. Louis Tabor, Division President for Litton Network Access Systems, stated, "Part of today's video market is surging forward with ISDN, an ineffective solution if you compare the transmission quality to the equipment investment you will be asked to make. Narrowband solutions cannot begin to offer the basic advantages broadband networked video brings to the table. In many applications, CAMVision-2 delivers switched video over an existing network, where other companies require an MCU or video server with the video codec. Instead of requiring two large expensive pieces of hardware, Litton Network Access Systems created software solutions to establish and control the network video sessions through the existing network hardware." CAMVision-2 offers single channel MPEG-2 main level@simple profile video encoding and decoding for transmitting over OC-3/155 Mbps ATM networks, as well as 25 Mbps ATM and 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet networks. The compatibility with all three network types allows for customers with ATM switches or Ethernet switches (or hubs) to easily integrate video into their current infrastructure. CAMVision-2 supports both NTSC and PAL formats, offers user-selectable video compression, and delivers CD-quality stereo audio channel at 44.1 kHz/ 16-bit. The CAMVision-2 product line can support an array of video sessions from point-to-point, point-to-multi-point, multicast as well as continuous presence. CAMVision-2 pricing for single encoder/decoder configurations begins just under $ 33,000. General availability began June 9, 1998. Litton Network Access Systems' target markets for CAMVision-2 include systems integrators, service providers, and end users for corporate conferencing, remote training, distance learning and other video intensive applications. The CAMVision-2 product complements Litton Network Access Systems' first video over ATM product called CAMVision 7610, which is based on Motion JPEG (MJPEG). The MJPEG product is positioned to provide broadcast-quality video at a lower price point than MPEG-2, but at an increased bandwidth of 20 - 30 Mbps. George T., CUBE has some cash, but not a lot by current M/A standards. The Divicom acquisition was a stroke of genius. Myself I would like to see further action in the systems area. That's where the lofty ratios lie. CUBE should be among the first over the next hill in digital video and I expect that they will pounce on the next opportunity when they see it. What would enhance their systems offerings the most? Since you are a potential customer maybe you can help them out? What does Divi need to add to make you a customer? Thanks in advance for your time.
