Jim,

Regarding consumer demand for computers: I currently own two, a 486x66 and a Pentium 90. My son is leaving for college this year, so one goes with him. Even if he were not leaving, I still want a new one. Actually, my problem is that I want two new ones: I need a portable, and I want one of those DELL workstations with dual processors.

From today's paper:

DELL Workstation 400 Desktop for $1949.99
333MHz Pentium II Processor (Dual-Processor Capable)
64MB RAM
4GB SCSI Hard Drive
24X Max. Variable SCSI CD-ROM
16-Bit Sound
8MB PCI Video
10/100Mbps NIC
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

$200 extra for 128MB RAM
$699 for Gloria L-MX video card
$100 for 56Kbps Modem
$199 for 17" Monitor

I wonder when CPQ will offer one of those for < $500?

Now, I admit that I may not be a 'typical' household or computer consumer. But you can rest assured that I will be buying those or similar machines within the next 1 1/2 years. I'd buy them now, if I didn't have to sell DELL to do it. <g>

BTW, can one of you tech gurus answer a question for me? Since I wish to put dual processors in the machine, do they need to be identical, or can they be different speeds without problem?

DELLish, 3
