OFF TOPIC

I don't participate on the TAVA thread, but the notorious Mr. Pink, on another thread, has declared TAVA a target for his short "manipulations." Just thought I'd let ya know if you didn't already.

Jeff--this would be true only if he shorted more stock than he bought. Then he is "net short." Or he can short a portion of his long position, thus "net long."

In your example, if he bought at 80 cents, then proceeded to "short against the box" an equal number of shares at $1.00, then his position in the stock is flat. He gains and/or loses nothing, in total, from that point on. If the stock tanks, his short position wins an equal amount that his long position loses.
If the stock goes up, vice versa.
