re:<<The first is simple, it's a low cost solution. Intel doesn't have much experience offering low cost anythings, let alone CPUs. It will be interesting to see what Intel does to pricing and performance.>>

True. It's quite a change from $600 to $10 chips. There are a lot of low cost solutions for the appliance market. I know they want to move the PII into the set top boxes, but the cable co's seemed to have said no thanks to the $300-$400 price tag. It seems like StrongArm might be a viable option for the low end set top boxes (if there is such a thing as low/high end set top boxes)

re:<<The second is that at current it is not an integrate audio/video and computation core.>>

That could be. Something seems to be delaying its introduction. They really havn't said much about it, but Intel is sort of like that. I guess they don't like to play their cards before they are ready.

Steve - Re: "Intel doesn't have much experience offering low cost anythings, let alone CPUs."

I think you don't have a clear understanding of Intel's breadth of products.

Intel has a large (in volume) business in embedded microprocessors - i960s, 80C51/80C52/80C251, 80C196, etc.

These processors sell in huge quantities and many of them sell for far less than $25/copy.

These don't earn Intel huge profits so you don't hear much about them in the "media" press coverage.

But they do earn profits for Intel, despite their low selling prices.
