From what they've released, I can't tell much. It doesn't seem directed at the heavy traffic end of the market, where the upcoming product lines from Ciena and Lucent will have 96-100 OC-48 channels (2.5Gb each) capability, with implied, unspecified partial OC-192 (10Gb each) capacity.

What they may be describing is a cost efficient 4-16 channel device which would be widely useful in private inter-network links, and interfaces to public networks. Unfortunately, we no longer spend the time w/MRV to overcome their public information problem.

But of course this is only guesswork; for most readers MRV's release would be useless . . . I can learnedly comment that its import is irrelevant, or extremely significant, or somewhere in-between. MRV has privately commented on its ability to compete in the WDM market for years. They have always been dead center not only in advanced technology, but in their vision of which technologies would gain market share and thus be worthy of development. For these reasons, I am never dismissive of their developments. But they'll never get to the mid-cap world if they continue to operate in a PR vacuum.
