Jenna, I do not like holding for earnings, but I am intrigued by the upgrade from BT Alex Brown a day or two BEFORE earnings. I'd be interested in your opinion as to whether this is significant and should be considered in a decision regarding a hold for earnings.

PRGS software helps its clients keep up with advances in computer technology. They go after midsize clients.. some of their customers include International Data Corp, PowerCerve and Munich Reinsurance.These clients typically have sales of $50 to 500 million a year. Some analysts say this segment is becoming one of the strongest in the global market for packaged easy-to-install software applications. The market is expected to nearly double by 2002 from $127 billion in '97..

This company has a lot of growth going forward say analysts.. The latest four quarters of earnings and sales growth mark a turnaround from the previous four quarters of declining results. The companies revenue is expected to grow 21% to $227 million this fiscal year ending November 30, and 15% to to $261 million in fiscal '99, according to a recent report by donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Securities.

Progress software has sold over 400,000 licenses for its products in 60 countries and opened a new office Milan, Italy on June 8, 1998.
