Starowl, when I said I suspected the street's presses would roll out some CD/DVD recording articles, I didn't expect one to show up within minutes of my post! Maybe I should have called for the bottom having been reached while I was at it ;-)

I use Adaptec's Easy CD Deluxe with a Memorex 1622 CD-RW (299.99 at many places including Comp USA and J & R Computer World) and I can tell you it is the best software on the market for general use. It beats out the NTI software that comes with the Memorex and that is no small feat since the NTI is excellent as well, but the Adaptec is better. The best feature is its ability to slow and control the audio extraction so that the extraction matches the slower ISA and ATAPI system configuration. I am using a 486 DX2 66 ISA; no SCSI, and get flawless audio CD copies.

CD-RW drives do both CD-R and CD-RW media.

You have to download and upgrade the firmware on the Memorex 1622 to D3.7 or it won't work with the Adaptec Easy CD; but the upgrade is simple and a must do. The upgrade is free. The Memorex 1622 is one of the best drives on the market and gets ZERO press. I use it constantly for everything including backups.
