Sometimes upticks without trades happen because a big buy order just came in and they are raising the price before the sell stock to the big buyer.

Yes they are playing with the ask a bit here. They also did that yesterday. but they are holding at the bid which is always a good sign. When they start raising the ask and lowering the bid I get a bit nervous.
