Cheryl,
Are you referring to the Sun press release from over 6 months ago that compares the 450 to CPQ's least cost efficient model of that time?

I do want to see contrarian views. I'd just like to avoid press releases touted as "hard" news. I could fill the SUNW thread with MSFT press releases, but it makes no sense. Considering the audience, I'd be wasting space on SI's servers, just as you are when you post SUNW press releases here. Instead, I look for 3rd party news to post. I see that you posted a little of that today, and I thank you.

Based on my first hand experience dealing with Sun and reading Sun propaganda while absolutely knowing the facts, I do not trust Sun PR at all. Sun repeatedly spiked their high school level Java compilers in order to cheat benchmarks while Symantec and Microsoft were honestly competing with very good code generators. Notice that I said Symantec had a good code generator. Do I think it's better than Microsoft's. Honestly no, but at least they have some real technology. Sun had zero interesting technology and chose to cheat instead. Sun was even fooled by the Hotspot group into thinking that they were buying some groundbreaking stuff. Why? Because they didn't know better. The PR that came out of that purchase made it sound like Java would run faster than hand tuned assembly language while it eliminated waste from your kitchen. Almost two years later, Sun has nothing interesting to show for their purchase. Sure, a few irrelevant benchmarks will look better when running in a particular configuration. Almost anyone can show this with any product.

Why don't you cite real news? Please understand that there is definitely a difference between "hard" news and PR.

Thanks,
Mike

Cheryl, STOP IT. You are losing. Why? MONEY can buy ANYTHING.

MSFT may start out as a whimpy low tech. But by luck or design,
it is now a REAL company, because with so much cash flow coming
in without DOING ANYTHING (ie, the cost to develop and maintain
winXX is so low vs. the money it is getting). It is a CASH COW
support all other activities, it is FREE supporting money from the
WORLD. It is so GROSS that MSFT has to tune it down every quarter
but smiling/laughing to the bank.

Consumer don't need anything fancy. I boot up the system once in
awhile or whenever 'General protect fault' menu popped up and
freeze my computer even though it GAVE ME A CHANCE to choose
but I can't. Didn't even bother to call support.

This is a product (winXX) requiring no support cost. The expectation
was low. But it is just the right product for the general public who
couldn't afford 'computing' otherwise.

Now, after many years of perfection, you would believe that MSFT will
get things right someday. The investment in APPLE is probably a
'software technology transfer'. With time and money on its side,
forget it, Cheryl. We will not see the demise of MSFT in this
decade. But it will, due to nature's law of 'empires always come and
go'. This also applies to 'U.S.A', sad to say. Sorry guys, signs
are popping up everyday and it's masked by the 'prosperity' and all
the 'politically correctness'(PC). This (PC) will kill U.S.A. Nature
always has equalizer.

The price of PC has dropped 30-50% every year and the price of winXX,
is still the same. Get the picture.

I know of someone who couldn't even get admission to college, now
with some luck, this person becomes so rich. I heard this person
is also 'studying/getting master degree' and have some title on the
business card.

I know it's tough to swallow your pride knowledge. Please take a
hike or have life. Cheryl, life isn't always perfect or fair.

Sorry, but you have my sympathy on your lost cause. Look at your
alumi and see the rich and famous is not always the smartest in
school.

Please don't be too technical on MSFT and MSFT can buy sunw and trash
it and still have lots of money left.

On your knee and pray the king or you shall be dead or punished.

Think MONEY, Cheryl. Think MONEY.

Hi Cheryl,

One thing i seem to have missed was your response to the assertion made by another here, that a server from compaq is outselling the 450 by about a 50:1 margin. Did you ever respond to that?

The world would be a better place without Sun, Netscape, OR MSFT.

FWIW
