NEW YORK, June 17 (Reuters) - U.S. dealers said on Wednesday that the U.S. central bank had been selling dollars for yen in the foreign exchange market.

''The Fed has been seen on the electronic broking system and has been calling around the market selling dollars very aggressively,'' a source said.

The U.S. Treasury also confirmed that the New York Federal Reserve Bank was in the market intervening on behalf of U.S. authorities.

The news sent dollar/yen tumbling through support levels at several support levels, dealers said.>>
