Sure it looks better politically.

However I don't think they would make such a move without thinking the chess game through as far as they can calculate.

I've said here before that I thought breaking away from Wintel in enterprise networking might make sense for Intel as a purely business decision since Novell is likely to have the best JAVA implementation on an Intel based processor with Netware 5 coming out in August and it has the largest installed base of Intel servers at the enterprise level.

Does anybody know whether the thinking at Intel runs deep.
