OT: WWI

rhet0ric: by 1942 the Soviet Union could have beaten Germany without the help of the other allies.

Jozef Halada: Why didn't they?

They largely did. D-Day and the rest was a sideshow compared to what happened on the eastern front. And the Soviets could have taken Berlin in 1944 if they had pushed for it (the whole "race for Berlin" thing is nonsense), but instead they stopped and moved south, capturing what later came to be called "Eastern Europe," so that they would have those countries as satellites following the armistice.
