Check the OED. Btw, did you know that Candace Bergen recently admitted in an interview that Quayle was right about Murphy Brown sending the wrong message and that she, herself, tried to get a more realistic treatment of her "mothering" inserted in the story. Instead, the writers refused and effectively and conveniently just wrote the baby out. I wonder how many single mothers living off the public can do that? Maybe there ought to be a government program... Anyway, that wasn't news that fits the liberal agenda so it wasn't deemed "newsworthy" by Dan Rather and his ilk.
