I'm going the other way. I'm short Orbotech and long NVLS as of this afternoon, just a few shares for fun. They are at the same price, a 3/8 difference which should cover commissions and spreads. So in a week or a month, we'll see which is higher.

I like Orbotech, I just think AOI is going to get nailed on earnings and chose it because it's so close in price to Novellus.

I'd be careful shorting either Teradyne or COHU. They are both up, but they have other business that can spoil your plans in a hurry. They don't move as closely with the sector as pure semi equipment issues.

The problem with shorting Teradyne is that analysts are forecasting 34% earnings growth for both this year and next year, but their P/E is only 14. I don't know how real that is, although they are more diversified than other members of the sector. You could get lucky if they have an earnings warning or miss their numbers.
