Component based computing doesn't really conflict with Object Oriented programming. To the contrary, Object Oriented languages are the tool to use in order to develop component based computing. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we can persist components in their natural form in the database ? Object design gives you exactly that... Object Design has by far more presence of this technology than any other OODB vendor in the market today (Did you see Versant's stock lately?). OLE DB, OSAX, DB Designer and integration with Microsoft Visual Studio environment are only some of the tools available; Not to mention the Java products that, in my opinion, are gaining more and more popularity.
