What effect do think the upcoming glut of chips will have on Intel? Especially if they become the high cost producer vs AMD? You know, because of the large die size Jim, that's a good question you asked Yousef. What is your opinion? As for me, I think it will be a disaster for AMD. It just means more losses. Increased AMD production will continue to erode Intel's earnings, but Intel will still be profitable. AMD and Cyrix seem to be on a kamikaze mission against Intel. Do you think AMD or NSM will be profitable anytime soon? Dale

Intel is currently the low cost producer of CPU's. This is not about to change soon. Intel has larger Fabs with more effective utilization of equipment and thus more silicon out per square-foot of cleanroom space. I also contend that Intel will always have higher yields than AMD or NSM due to the high wafer volumes and Intel's ability to improve yield based on learning from this larger wafer output. The only hope for AMD is the die size ... So far in the past year, AMD has not even come close to becoming the low cost producer with die size. Jim, you just don't understand the Fab business. One question for you, Jim ... Why is AMD having such a hard time getting to 333mhz and 350mhz K6-2's ?? You know if AMD doesn't get these speeds real soon, then AMD ASP's will fall well below $100.00 ... This would be a disaster for AMD. Make It So, Yousef
