Joey,

Re: "Plain and simple, IBM and Cpq are taking AMD to the cleaners..."

I agree ... IBM and Compaq are treating AMD like a "$2 Hooker" ... Not a
pretty site, IMHO.

Joey, your recollection "AMD spokesman [said] that K6-2 will be priced equivalent to PII" is faulty.

They said that since K6-2 is equivalent in performance to Pentium II, it would be priced 25% below it. They also said that since it is 25% higher performance than Celeron, it would be priced same as Celeron.

Right now, according to Pricewatch, the K6-2-266 is
-2% relative to Celeron 266
-37% relative to Pentium II-266

K6-2-300 is
-4% relative to Celeron 300
-35% relative to Pentium II-300

The low AMD pricing has had the desired effect: Intel has given up on Slot 1 for future Celerons. This guarantees that they won't be able to sell any Slot 1 Celerons during the phaseout.
