"I seldomly ever see Tyan computer MB's mentioned here."

First, thanks for the follow-up to my winmodem answer, Sean.

I have never owned a Tyan board. I have heard testimony from several independent reputable vendors that they've had very high RMA's on them. (Sorry, but it's been awhile, and I don't recall the various parties.) This has led me to shy away from recommending or trying them.

Assuming this perception ever was accurate, it may now be obsolete.

I recall that Tyan always seemed to have excellent documentation and unusual features (e.g., lots of mem and expansion slots) for their Tomcat and other P5 boards. I reckon they still do? I also gather you've not experienced the same reliability problems.

Just my moderately informed opinion.

Dave

Tyan mobos

The Tyan manual indicates that one must use Tyan or Tyan approved cables. Do Tyan cables have different configurations or is this Tyan trying to protect themselves. Do they have a list of approved cables??

from the manual

Note: Only TYAN cables will work on this motherboard. If you are using an existing case with old cables, your system will not function properly. Use only TYAN-approved cables.

I have been looking for boards with more than 4 PCI slots.

I noted that Tyan's onboard sound (I don't remember the board) used one shared IRQ. The The Turtle Beach Daytona PCI uses two.
