Thanks for the virtual chocolates!

You only have to reboot when you create a completely new profile. But once you've created D:/Meta, you can send all sorts of lists there, in subdirectories. For your nightly lists, you could group everything under D:/Meta each night, in different dated directories. Or each night you can delete the subdirectories of lists you no longer need.

Now that you've created these lists, you can choose whether to import them into profiles or output them to "real" Metastock compatible directories using Output to Metastock. If you do use "real" ones, make sure you update them each night.

I group all the real directories under one main directory and all the virtual ones under one profile. There's no need to create a profile for each list. You'd spend your life rebooting.

Only one thing to add to Brooke's #4599, Ken.
You automatically "dump/burn profiles as I go if I decide I don't like them after looking at them." by scanning into the old [sub]dir.

This applies to both VMS and MSDATA; you can also manually delete [all but root virtual dirs] to your hearts content.

One thing that I definitely don't like, so far, is the necessity to reboot my machine everytime I create a new profile.

Then stop doing that.

You can have hundreds of subdirectories off of the root directory in the profile.

For example - create a profile with the directory c:\virt.

In the scan program use: ProcessMS "C:\virt\dir1" , VMS;

In different scans, you can use:

ProcessMS "C:\virt\dir2" , VMS;
ProcessMS "C:\virt\dir3" , VMS;

etc. without conflict. There will be no need to reboot.

Ken,

no need to reboot, why create multiple profiles.... you can put everything in one profile. I have over 40,000 symbols in one profile setup. Have you played with the processVMS command in the scans yet.... just some things to consider....
