winston--

i dont get pissed about someone shorting a stock i am long. i get pissed off when they compare, oh for example...MU with VLSI?!?!?!?!

you act as though VLSI is just like AMAT and AMAT is just like MU. they are different companies with different positives and negatives.

you want to go short something, do what rational people do...short the semi equipment makers and MU. dont short a company whose bad news is already out, whose expectations are already low, and whose products are still moving and arent under tremendous pricing pressure.

good luck to all,
trey

Why is this a buying opportunity?
<<this sector is torn up and needs more of a beating....looks bleak....MU huge loss and lower sales...KLIC earnings warning...>>

MU - heavy PC exposure
KLIC - a semi eq maker with 80% of it's sales to Asia, which has
actually closed a couple of dram fabs.
VLSI - wireless and consumer products

The only truth to Winston's post is that semi's have widespread
guilt by association. This eventually gets sorted out, thus the buying
op.

Asian crisis has caused a range of companies to cut back on
inventory levels. Last insider sale at $37/shr

Evidence that Asia is still buying handsets - ericy, clst

short term, who knows? next earnings release is going to be all
about outlook. If vlsi gives a bleak outlook we could be in trouble,
but I see no reason to expect that, except for the Winston-type
reasoning -- mammals have fur, therefore a whale is the same
as a mouse.
