Bob,

The MII has 296 pins.

Well, that's 74 less than Mendocino. I would just find it hillarious if Intel beat Cyrix to 128bit bus. Then, both NSM and AND are toast.

It would explain the new socket.

I guess in January 99, we will find out that MXi is delayed 6 month, until they add Gigabit Ethernet and DSL support, and PCOAC is delayed until the new millenium in order to add some other nonsence.

The key strategy for Cyrix is to have products on the roadmap, products that would be competitive today, but with available well in the future. By the time Cyrix gets around to them, Intel implements the idea, and beats Cyrix to market.

MXi would be competitive for christmas season in the $799 - $999 market, and the MediaGX PCOAC would be competitive in the same timeframe for $399 to $799 market. By the time they actually show up, it is again going to be too little too late.
