>> I could not resist the SCSI temptation. I opted for the Adaptec AHA 2940 U2W host adapter($399 @ Fry's). The card supports fifteen SCSI devices. There are four connectors and all of them can be used. <<

Does your 2940 U2W have two separate channels, SCSI busses? One channel for 16 bit SCSI devices and one channel for wide SCSI devices. Or are all 4 connectors on the 2940 U2W connected internally to the same bus? Have you tried your SCSI controller with devices connected externally and internally to one channel.? If you haven't it will be interesting to hear what happens when do and if you have termination problems.

Otherwise it sounds like you are making great progress on your upgrade. KOT

>I hear..... Tanya Tucker through the speakers<

The only suggestion I would have for the Zeus Machine
would be to update your CD selection. Sorry couldn't resist :)

Ideas Extra PCI slot:
1. Ethernet card for future InterJetNet
2. Graphics card for more monitors - Thursday $89 Win 98 upgrade!

Is this the first computer birth from this thread?
I think it is. Congratulations, even though it wasn't planned!

Congrats on getting it all up and running! That's no small accomplishment. It also sounds like you're near the point where the Zeus Machine is doing all the bootup and configuration options you want.

Thanks for the detailed report--made for interesting reading.

Have you tried a deja news search on the Iwill MB pin assignments? I bet you got a more recent version of the board, and the manual has yet to keep up.

Glad you like the MII. I didn't realize you could set virtual resolution with dimensions other than equal multiples of length and height--that's neat. Will look forward to any other info you share on how this best works for you.

Just a guess, but I'd be surprised if MB on the card would effect the virtual res resolution or color depth, since the card is only accessing the 1024x768 at one time. Is the online help very good on how to use these functions? I thought that the manual was only moderately helpful.

Sounds like you'll be able to boot to your heart's content!

I'm really pleased that you've had great success with partition magic. I find it indispensable.

I would opt for xcopy over windows explorer for file transfer myself (more controllable), but generally, I think PM is more reliable.

Will look forward to hearing more.

Regards,

Dave
