Goldfinger, you commented: "Romania or England? I think Romania is the better side, but, in one of those quirky twists of fate that always take place in the Cup, England will win anyway." Maybe you missed England's game v Tunisia. Maybe you should watch the England v Romania game tonight, and realise there is a gulf of difference between the teams, both in attack and in defence. Maybe Shearer doesn't have the dazzling dribbling skills of Ronaldo, but he has this uncanny knack of putting the goal in the back of the net almost every time he gets a chance. Also, watch Scholes, an even more natural goalscorer than Shearer..etc etc. As for losing to Germany in the quarter-finals, you should note that the last two cup competitions where England met Germany, the Germans were well outplayed (WC semis 1990, Euro semis 1996) but beat the English on penalties. Their luck has run out. In any case, your semi-final prediction leaves no place for either of these teams to play France???? There will be nothing quirky about the progression of England in this tournament.....

Croatia Round of Sixteen: BRAZIL d. Nigeria HOLLAND d. Argentina FRANCE d. Italy YUGOSLAVIA d. Romania Semi-finals: HOLLAND d. Brazil FRANCE d. Yugoslavia Final: HOLLAND d. FRANCE I believe the Yugos will go out and crush the US and Germany will have a tight game against Iran, and Yugoslavia will win the group. Pity for you, Klaus, when Germany plays Holland June 29. I hope this happens, as we then will all have a great time watching you say auf wiedersehen! If I screw up any of these picks, will revise before second round commences. Hate rooting against the US but it would be nice to see those arrogant Teutons make an early exit!
