Automated Backup

If I want to incorporate an automated backup system is tape the best? How would it work with a partitioned 6.5 GB drive? What is a good match of tape size vs partition size? Can I schedule a daily backup of a 500 MB C: and a 3MB G: drive and a 3MB H: drive and have it all done automatically? Do I compress? Is it a complete backup of the entire partition or just the files on the partition? Is it possible to retrieve individual files. Drive image allows individual file retrieval for uncompressed images only.

Thanks for the CDR recommendation. 12-20x..Is the 12 record speed and 20 read speed? DVD recommendations?

<Sigh> Sean, I must raise a flag on your advice again. NOT
that I think it's bad <G>, but my experience adds amelioration.

The ONLY CDROM I've ever had fail was a Plextor SCSI 4x drive.
It died the moment its warrantee expired. Plextor is off
my list of reliable manufacturers.

Of course, anything can fail, but the distinction of being
my only failure matters to me. The darned thing ran hotter
than a house afire, which probably is why it failed.
